Sony 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens Shots

I did not own a macro lens until six months ago when I bought the Sony 100mm f/2.8 from my brother. He had little use for it, but it has become one of my favorites. I love shooting closeups with a shallow depth of field. The images look almost abstract sometimes.

The first of these I took at John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor. It has a small butterfly garden. I saw no butterflies that day, but I did see some flowers. The rest I took at Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. I don't have all the settings in front of me but for most of them I did shoot at f/2.8 for the most shallow depth of field I could get with a Sony A77.

Eureka Springs Park - Again!

Yeah, I know. I keep shooting at this place, even though there's not a ton to shoot there. But it's fairly close to me, as opposed to the 55 minute ride to the much more expansive Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. This day I found even less to shoot than usual, and only got seven shots worth sharing.

Lettuce Lake Park and USF Botanical Gardens

The photo club I shoot with had an outing at Lettuce Lake Park in Tampa Sunday. I was late so I missed some of the best light, as well as the company of my fellow shooters.

I didn't see a lot at the park so I ventured over to the USF Botanical Gardens where I had a little better luck, though by then I was battling the midday sun. The second of the caterpillar shots I took with flash — yes, even in bright sunlight! — to get rid of shadows.

Garden Gallery

These are some of my favorite images from my recent trip to Pennsylvania to photograph gardens for a landscape architect's website. Most of these are not on the site because the shots needed for that show the design elements of the garden. My interest is mostly colors.

The woman who appears twice (if you watch long enough) is the landscape architect. Her name is Jamie Collins and if you happen to live in New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania and have thought about turning your yard into a true showpiece, she's the one to do it. She marries a love of plants with a mastery of the technical aspects of design. She really does terrific work. Her website is www.CedarLineDesign.com.

She also has a photogenic cat and a table that provided indoor still life shots.

Web Photography

I just returned from a trip to Pennsylvania that was part business, part pleasure. While there I designed and built a website for a landscape architecture business. I took all the photographs for the site except for three "before" pictures.

That's the gallery page. I was really pleased how the whole site turned out. My friend wanted something simple and elegant. We agree that she got it. It helped to have some stunning scenery to photograph. I will make a slide show of some of the images and post them soon.

I'm not an expert website builder but I know enough HTML, CSS and Flash to get by.
